Fantastic Fest: The Miami Connection/Dragon Sound!

Anyone who attended last year’s Fatso 24 Hour Movie Marathon at The Hollywood Cinema in Auckland will tell you that the film that played at the eighteenth hour, The Miami Connection, was the craziest, most incredible piece of chop-sockey action cinema they’ve ever seen.  Made in 1987 and rediscovered just recently, it’s a mini-masterpiece of independent filmmaking, catchy music, poor acting and over-the-top fight choreography.

As part of this year’s Fantastic Fest and coinciding with the re-release of the film in the United States, we were fortunate enough to witness the reformation of the featured band and stars of the film, Dragon Sound! who played to a crowd of super enthusiastic film fans, welcoming them back to the stage after a 25 year absence.  It was an amazing night!

Below is a small pictorial, taken by Andrew Todd, of the night in all its craziness.
