Excellent movie full of redemptive themes and quite a lot of "Hey, I know someone like that" moments.

Dialogue for grown-ups
5
Swedish movie where the dialogue is between grown-ups, as in many words are left unsaid and a question seems to be seeking a connection rather than answers.
It's refreshing to be allowed to read the change in characters as the story progresses rather than have every thought scripted, as in mainstream movie and TV dramas from the US of A.
These characters are more real in their humility, rather than boldness, and their convergence in the final concert scene is very moving and all the more believeable.By Steve Searle

On the shoulders of giants we see..

This will go down as one of my all time favourites. What makes this a exceptionally endearing piece of art is that through finding you're passions within can lead you to a higher plain. There many movements and wrongs unspoken half-truths committed. But when you're faced with a need to be loved and finding the courage to seek this out. I identified with Daniel's character and anyone that has been the subject of bullying, I'm sure will leave hugging that inner child.
A rare gift, thank-you.

This movie should make us all think about the courage to act when a situation occurs that is physically hurting another
We tend to close our eyes when danger is affecting someone we know so when a community pulls together action can be taken

Multi layered enjoyment

This movie developed into smaller side stories as it progressed. Not only was it a story about the main character learning to trust and to love, but the situation surrounding his transformation sparked little sub plots about the lives of the other people he interacted with. Each character was skilfully developed to be significant in their own way throughout the story, so that the viewer is left for days afterwards remembering small gems that were revealed about each of them. Even the ending left you with a feeling of poignant satisfaction that at least the hero had discovered that true happiness is often found in the simple pleasures of life.

From the opening scene to the end this movie captured the realms of raw human emotion so well. The cinematography was exquisite and the music was uplifting. One of those "best" movies that linger long!

This film has been playing for ages, reminiscent of Gloomy Sunday's run around the country. One of the greats.

The most inspiring film I have ever seen about the deep connectedness we can feel with each other, the misunderstandings and tragedy caused by bigotry/prejudice/jealousy and the triumph of love and the human spirit. The finale of the film is the most touching and moving five minutes you will have ever witnessed!

An enchanting story
4
An enchanting story about how the return to a small community of a man of international aclaim, Daniel who suffers a major heart attack while performing, changes the townsfolk. The lives, loves and interpersonal tensions could not have been predicted, and all this while Daniel commits himself to training the church choir and has to overcome his own fears. May seem a bit corny, but well worth going to. Would be particularly appealing to woman.

A well-worn story but it's nicely handled here, blending high drama and moments of farce with some splendid music and a od love story...
