This was Hitchcock’s first feature to incorporate sound, generally acknowledged as the "first British talkie". The accent of Czech actress Anny Ondra was considered unusable, so her lines were spoken off-screen by a British actress. A silent version of the film was also shot for distribution to cinemas not equipped for sound. Hide
