I have decided I am quite eclectic with regards to my movie viewing....from this to "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo....my favourite this year.
Loved this however...didnt have to think hard...new what was coming...cliche , cheesy and yes the boy/s got the girl/s. Love Vanessa Redgrave in any movie ... scenery brilliant even if adapted...Italy at its best...an adults Fairy tale...go expectng nothing and you may be surprised ..even entertained!

  • Terrible flick.

[Spoilers ahead] I'd say this would have to be in the top 3 worst movies I have ever seen. The movie is predictable and completely unrealistic. All the male characters are either desperate or moronic. We are supposed to sympathise with the female lead even though she blatantly cheats on her fiancée. The dialogue was so bad that you could tell the actors were cringing while they spewed it out, eg. "Can you move?" "Only my lips..." Yuck. Don't waste your time.

  • SO SO - I MEAN OK...

Saw this at Highland Park (Great Place!)..The movie moved along at a quiet ambling pace & at times it felt like "sleepy" like is there anything to wake us up. It never many aha moments in it only when the man on the horse arrived and when Charlie fell down the wall. So it's half and half for points. 3/5
Check it out for yourself & see.

I'm being kind with my rating, only because the scenery was so lovely. But the acting and dialogue were rubbish!! I can't believe Vanessa Redgrave would stoop so low! If they could have cut out the scenes with the hopeless humans in them and just shown the countryside and beautiful buildings I would have rated it a 4.

  • GOOD (not refreshing though)

    Let's be up front.
Italy should have got first billing on this film. Even if it was Italy with a fair bit of photoshopping and plastic surgery. I sure don't remember Italy being this clean, uncrowded or quiet - even the samll towns! The actors and actresses generally pretty good (even the Aussie) GG Bernal the biggest let down, as he was pretty undimensionally unlikeable. It's a genuine, romantic film with a smattering of comedy, and if it's pretty at the expense of substance so be it. If you go along expecting Love Actually or Four Weddings and a Funeral you're going to be disappointed, but if you actually liked the (much, much, much worse!) story behind Mamma Mia, then this deserves your attention too.

Went to this movie with my mum on mothers day. We both really enjoyed it (me in my early twenties) and my mum, obviously a bit older. It was terribly cliche, but all the same hilarious! The movie theatre was filled with laughter throughout the whole movie.

Bland, predictable picture, whose sole assets are a cute premise, the Italian countryside and the dignity Vanessa Redgrave brings to a part that, on the page, is quite beneath her.

There's a few cheesy contrived moments as well as some predictable moments but all in all Letters to Juliet delivers exactly what you'd expect.

Jose Rivera and Tim Sullivan's script relentlessly piles on goopy conversation-stoppers like "Do you believe in destiny?" and "I didn't know that true love had an expiration date."
