This is without a doubt the worst modern Bond so far, a franchise that has been outwitted and outgunned by the Bourne trilogy. In fact 'Quantum' is a pale pastiche of 'Ultimatum', guilty mostly of copying the latter's only major flaw, the extreme close quarter camera work that makes 90% of the action incomprehensible. At least Greengrass backed off often enough to remind us who the lead was; as far as I could tell Craig's stunt double carried this film, poaching most of 'Ultimatum's' set pieces including the rooftop chase sequence, the taking out 4 guys in a lift sequence, and the hotel room knife-on-knife fight. But the plagiarism doesn't end there. Haggis and his lazy co-writers even had the temerity to rip-off the famous Goldfinger moment where Bond finds his lover dead on the bed, substituting gold for oil.
It's an embarrassment, from the unimaginative opening credit sequence (Maurice Binder will be turning in his grave) to the last when finally, after 105 minutes of seen-it-before, we hear Monty Norman's iconic theme music - strangely missing in action throughout the entire body of the film. Not that it would have saved Craig's terminal pout. I feel utterly sucked in. 'Casino' offered us great promise of things to come, but this sequel left me colder than Dame Dench's steely glare. The Bond girl was plastic, the antagonist was one dimensional and the plot was made of an even thinner synthetic. M needs to retire Broccoli immediately. And with extreme prejudice.
Bring on the 'Bourne Legacy', 'Betrayal', 'Sanction' and 'Deception'.
Definately does not live up to the hype, but will sustain the avid Bond fan's appitite... for now. Quite a shame really.
I agree with some (if not most) of the other comments here. There was so much to live up to and the team didnt deliver.
There were some great points to the movie but predictability and the sense of deja-vu set in for most.
Action action action as usual Bond never disapoints
I usually find myself able to follow a movie from beginning to end, but with this bond movie it was just impossible. One min he was killing this guy then the next he was killing another.
Was there even a plot to this movie? if there was i didnt get it.
The action was there but as people have said "we have seen this all before" which i find quite boring to say the least. When you go see a movie with all this hype you expect it to blow your mind. All this did was almost put me to sleep.
Watch it if you must, but if your left sitting there at the end feeling rather empty and cheated, dont blame me, i tried to warn you..
this movie was a waste of time even shooting it and a waste of money, bond has had it's day this was the first James Bond movie i've sat through the whole way through and let me tell you a do regret even paying to see it. Bond has had a a long and tiresom run, quit now bond makers, bond is slowly dying, make him reclaim his dignitiy and walk away, he's not gunna go out with a bang anytime soon if the movies just keep getting worse and the stunts that are so unreal that they wouldn't be able to even happen.
It had no plot line, the first scene was pointless and excruciatingly loud, the sound effects were rubbish as well as the actors.
Great action...almost too much action.
Bond mmmmm yeah don't like the pout and not enough one liners - trademark of Bond. No humour :-(
Overall so so for a bond movies. My husband is a fan so loved it. Guess you have too see it to decide.
A dissapointing Bond addition that could have promised so much more.
very good best movie ever
worst bond ever no Wow about it at all
The action scenes were extremely badly directed with the scene flicking all over. Get back Tamihore the Kiwi who directed Casino Royale which was as brilliant as QoS was poor. I have seen all the bond movies and this is clearly the worst by far, possibly has ruined the James Bond religion.
James Bond movies used to be done in a style of class and tounge in the cheek sort of style. All with fast cars and laughable and enjoyable plots.
Now with this movie it has become more of a drama. Sure it still has car chases and lots of action but add drama an it comes off as a bit off a mess.
Revenge is what drives James Bond in this movie and revenge drama is mixed
with all the action while still trying to make the movie an enjoyable action flick. I guess i tuned in for an earlier typpe of Bond or like the previous movie wich i thoroughly liked.
I came in with wrong expectations as this is a different take of Bond but maybe not a good one.
