Seemingly designed as a platform for everybody’s favourite hunky vampire, Robert Pattinson, to deliver a breakout thespian showcase, Remember Me never gets out of first gear. Pattinson is a serviceable enough romantic lead, in a poor man’s James Dean kind of way, but problems elsewhere prevent the film from reaching its potential.

For the majority of the film, the good outweighs the bad. Romantic seduction is integrated into the darker tenets of drama in a way that enhances both elements, despite a lack of onscreen chemistry between the lead couple. Comic relief comes at the right times and is a nice counterpoint to the bleaker human emotions that the story explores. Big name supporting cast members Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper are solid in their roles, although the latter seems a little down from his usual high standards.

It’s the ending that is the film’s biggest downfall. Without going into too much detail about the plot’s biggest twist, it’s so poorly executed that it leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Conceptually, it’s not a bad idea but it’s overplayed with such a heavy hand that it induces groans rather than gasps. Robert Pattinson fans should be happy enough, though, and one suspects that this was the main goal all along.

I read a really bad review of this movie and was almost didn't see it. But I am really glad I did. Don't be bias towards the movie because Robert Pattinson from twilight is in it, it's nothing like twilight and he does a good job. It's a heart felt drama not an emo love story about a troubled youth who feels no one understands him and that some girl he meets it his salvation which is what it looks like from the trailer. Go see it and decide for yourself.

    Agree? Disagree?...
  • Exceptionally unexpected.

This film was wrong on so many levels. It appeared to be targeted at the twenty-something indie/scenester. But we all know THAT audience loves to hate on R-patz. So you're left with a cinema full of tweens after eye candy. Which is exactly the audience this film kicks in the guts at the climax, with an issue that, at the time, many people were too young to understand, or feel is irrelevant now. But I dont think the shock in this film is its only merit. It is also beautifully detailed.

    Agree? Disagree?...
  • Amazing movie- touching, real, deep

An incredible movie. I thought it was just going to be an american romanc ebut it was much moe than that. The actors all had such epth and could very easily recognized as real people. The ending blew me away and some people I know who don't get on with members of their family actually went and crossed the bridge of communication after seeing this the way it ended, considering how it could have ended. Everyone should see this

    Agree? Disagree?...
  • It was alright.

Ladies, catch your breath - in between his time sparkling as a vampire, R Patz returns to the screen in this romantic drama.

  • Urban Cinefile (Australia)

The relevance of the film's title only becomes clear at the film's ill-conceived end, in a dragged out sequence that totally overshadows the film's already flakey premise. The best thing that can be said of the film is that it is well intentioned, but a hard nosed script editor should have torn it to shreds and got writer Will Fetters to rework it. Or get a better idea.

The modestly scaled film delivers some moving and affecting moments amid a preponderance of scenes of frequently annoying people behaving badly.
