Yogawoman 2011
Documentary exploring the generation of modern women leading the way in yoga, a practice brough to the west by a lineage of men. More
Through personal stories - from the bustle of Manhattan to the dusty slums of Kenya - and interviews with leading experts, Yogawoman relates how, in record numbers, women are discovering yoga. Reclaiming this ancient spiritual path from its traditionally male form, the result is a transformation of modern yoga. Led by a new generation of dynamic female teachers, this 'new' yoga replaces a more rigid style with a distinctly feminine practice that honors intuition, family, flow, connection, community, activism, and the cyclical nature of women’s lives. Oooo exciting. Never been into yoga but this makes me want to try it...
"90% of women dissatisfied with their body image" followed, without irony, by a lithe, slim woman doing an impossible yoga position...duh
"yoga is the most politically subversive activity that someone can do" Really? How is a mainstream exercise, politically subversive exactly?
Brilliant - great timing for this movie. look forward to seeing it!
I'll go and see it but the promo looks a bit stupid.
