A very late addition to the New Zealand International Film Festival has just been announced: this year's Cannes Palme d'Or winner Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives.

WATCH THE TRAILER HERE.

The Auckland Festival has added a day in August to screen it.

This year's Cannes jury, headed by Tim Burton, surprised many mainstream commentators by awarding the world's most prestigious award to Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul's "mysterious, beautiful and playful evocation of reincarnation and the transmigration of spirits".

Don't miss what may well be your only opportunity to experience this film on the cinema screen. The three Auckland screenings will be at Rialto on Wednesday August 4 at 4.00pm, 6.15pm and 8.30pm.

Book at Rialto by phoning 09 369 2417.

Uncle Boonmee with also be playing in Wellington and other festivals, details to come.
