'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' Delayed Until March
Paramount are holding back their G.I. Joe sequel for nine months in order to convert it to 3D. Here's their argument (via Deadline):
"We're going to do a conscientious 3D job because we've seen how it can better box office internationally,"
So, they want more money. Fair enough. But 3D post conversion almost never looks good.
"Jim Cameron did all of Titanic's 3D in post - and look how well that movie turned out."
True, but unless you actually plan to hire James Cameron to work on the conversion, don't count on it looking as good. Plus, wouldn't moving the blockbuster from Summer to March be a financial risk?
"The blockbuster performance of The Hunger Games shows that March can be a prime time of the year to release movies."
Well, there you have it; the wait for G.I. Joe: Retaliation just got a little longer. But who knows? It could be as good as The Hunger Games with Titanic-quality 3D.
