Liam Neeson is in talks to star in survival drama The Grey.

The 58-year-old actor would reunite with The A-Team director Joe Carnahan on the project, which tells the story of a group of pipeline workers in Alaska who struggle to survive after their plane crashes.

The group then come under attack from pack of wolves, leading Neeson to become leader of his group in an effort for him to get home to the woman he loves.

Carnahan wrote the screenplay with Ian Mackenzie Jeffers, the writer of the original short story on which the movie is based.

The movie – which will be produced by Ridley and Tony Scott – is set to cost $US 34 million, and begin shooting in early 2011.

Oscar-nominated actor Neeson will next be seen in Paul Haggis' crime drama The Next Three Days alongside Elizabeth Banks and Russell Crowe.

He will also be heard in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, where he voices the lion Aslan.
