'My Wedding and Other Secrets' - A New Kiwi Rom-Com
My Wedding and Other Secrets, the latest film from South Pacific Pictures, makers of Whale Rider and Sione’s Wedding, is set for nationwide New Zealand release on Thursday March 17, 2011.
A Romeo and Juliet story with a Kiwi-Asian twist, My Wedding and Other Secrets is a romantic comedy in which a young couple, James and Emily, have to overcome the expectations of Emily’s parents in order to bring happiness to everyone.
The film (which had the working title Girl Meets Boy) is based on the real-life cross cultural romance of first-time feature film writer/director Roseanne Liang.
Producer Paul Davis says: “My Wedding and Other Secrets is a romantic comedy with a whole lot of heart. It's a film about first love, family and realising your dreams – things we can all identify with.”
Michelle Ang (TV's Outrageous Fortune, No.2) stars in the lead role of Emily while Matt Whelan (TV's Go Girls) stars as her love interest James. Kenneth Tsang and Cheng Pei Pei, two of Asia's favourite film stars, play Emily’s parents, Dr and Mrs Chu.
Sony Pictures will distribute the film in New Zealand with South Pacific Pictures.
