The only competitive trans-Tasman short film festival, Show Me Shorts, opened in Auckland on Thursday. All 40 films that are screening at the fest - now on in Auckland and travelling throughout the country - were contending for eight awards handed out on opening night.

The big winner, taking three awards, was the stunning animated short Poppy which follows two NZ soldiers in WW1 who come across a baby on the battlefield.
