The 3PM Dispatch: George Lucas, Hancock 2, Les Mis, Bridesmaids 2
George Lucas "Retiring" From Making Blockbusters. Except For Another 'Indiana Jones'. But That's All. Maybe.
George Lucas, director and eventual ruiner of Star Wars, has told The New York Times that he is now done with making blockbuster films. "I'm retiring. I'm moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff," Lucas said. Apparently he left himself an out-clause for a fifth Indiana Jones film, although the article doesn't quote his words on that. As for Star Wars? Well, it looks like fanboy victims of his CGI tinkering have finally got their wish, with Lucas commenting, "Why would I make any more when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?".
Dude From 'Gossip Girl' To Lead Singing People In 'Les Mis'.
Entertainment Weekly report that Gossip Girl actor Aaron Tveit has been cast as Enjolras in Tom Hoopers adaptation of the musical Les Miserables. Enjolras is the "charismatic" French revolutionary who busts out the popular song 'Do you Hear The People Sing?' in the show.
Liv Tyler To Have Immaculate Conception. In Space.
Liv Tyler, just about the only actor not invited back to be a part of The Hobbit, has just signed on to sci-fi thriller The Side Effect. The story sounds a little reminiscent of the excellent Moon, with Liv Tyler being the sole occupant on a pharmaceutical company's experimental space station who suddenly and mysteriously becomes pregnant. Ti West, director of The Innkeepers, directs.
It's 'About Time' The 'Love Actually' Director Made Another Film.
The Hollywood Reporter have the scoop that Richard Curtis, writer/director of Love Actually, will soon begin working on a new film. Titled About Time - see what we did in the headline there? - there's not too many details known about the project as yet, only that Curtis wrote and will direct the picture, it is a time travel film and that it will be made on a small budget.
Kristen Wiig Wades Into 'Bridesmaids 2' Conversation
Various cast members have been saying various things regarding star/writer Kristen Wiig's involvement in a possible sequel to comedy Bridesmaids. Some say she's in, some say she's not. Wiig had kept schtum on the matter until E! Online cornered her on the Golden Globes red carpet and asked her directly. "We're not planning on doing one," Wiig replied. "We had a special time making the first one, but we're really excited to try something else." So there you go. Of course, the studio may push on with their plan to sequalise the picture without her...
How About A Superhero Sequel? YES! Oh, It's A Sequel To Will Smith's 'Hancock'. Erm...
Director Peter Berg has told ComicBookMovie.com that he and Will Smith have been talking about making a sequel to their surly superhero flick Hancock. "We're all interested, but we literally just have trouble getting into the same room at the same time. We did have a series of meetings last year and started to hash out an idea for a sequel -and Will Smith actually had the idea - so I think it will happen. It's just a question of timing."
Today In Mash-Ups: Behold! The new trailer for the upcoming sci-fi horror Wall-Etheus...
Today In Trivia: Before Will Smith was cast as the hobo superhero Hancock, comedian Dave Chappelle was seriously considered for the role.
Today's Bad Movie Tagline: The tagline for Liv Tyler's 1997 thriller U Turn: "Expect the unexpected". But if you're expecting the unexpected wouldn't the unexpected then cease to be unexpected and instead become the expected? Yes. Yes it would.
Happy Birthday!: To Muppet enthusiast, Jason Segel who is 32 today.
