Warner Bros. to Remove Cinema Shooting Scene in 'Gangster Squad'
In response to the tragic Dark Knight Rises shooting in Colorado, WB studios have taken down the theatrical Gangster Squad trailer containing a scene with a bunch of Sean Penn’s men firing through a screen and at a cinema audience. They’re also going one step further, making plans to cut the scene entirely from the final film, forcing them to organise hasty re-shoots.
I’m of the opinion of Collider journalist Matt Goldberg: I’m gutted that they cut the scene, but can understand the risk of their film being politically eclipsed by ridiculous accusations of insensitivity.
“I don’t think the horrible acts of madmen should get to dictate the art of others.”
Couldn’t have said it better myself. We’ll have to wait and see whether this final edit will remain exclusive to The States or whether the change will be worldwide.
Gangster Squad opens in New Zealand 27th of September.
