Wes Anderson Called 'Sociopathic'
Looks like director Wes Anderson hasn't made any new friends during the production of Fantastic Mr Fox.
The stop-motion movie, based on the novel by Roald Dahl, was filmed in England. During the painstaking shooting process, however, Anderson resided in Paris, sending through his directions via the internet.
If this didn't rattle the hard-working crew enough, he insisted on avoiding any computer generated enhancements or green screens, adamant on using in-camera trickery to create effects. He even wanted to use proper fur for the character puppets, despite the difficulty in keeping it smooth when being moved by the animators (see the original King Kong for an example).
The director of photography, Tristan Oliver, even called him "sociopathic".
All this has been written about in this Los Angeles Times article, in which Wes Anderson defends himself.
What do you think? Pompous auteur, or misunderstood innovator?
