Wine And Neurosis Back In Fashion As 'Bridget Jones 3' Gets Greenlit.
Renee Zellweger as Bridget Jones
The first two Bridget Jones Diary films made being a neurotic, chain smoking, wine guzzling frump seem like a viable and attractive life-path for many 20-something women around the world.
So if you were one of them, then good news! The long talked about third entry into Jones' cinematic diary has been greenlit. Although she may not be quite as frumpy as you remember her...
Apparently a stumbling block in getting star Renee Zellweger onboard was the issue of the character's weight. Zellweger had famously piled on the pounds to portray Jones in the first two films but this time round she was not prepared to chow down on the cheeseburgers.
"Renee had no reservations about saying yes once she found out she wouldn't have to get fat," a source close to the production told The Sun newspaper. "She hated having to do that in the last two films."
Jones' ongoing love triangle is all set to continue in the film, with Colin Firth and Hugh Grant gearing up to reprise their roles as the dueling Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver.
"Colin is really keen on a third film. He thinks it will be a great flick to get his teeth into after all the success with The King's Speech, as it's so different," the source added, apparently with a straight-face. "He's getting very excited about the idea of marriage and kids in the script now all the characters are older."
Not much details about the script or what form Jones' diary adventures will take this time round have surfaced, only that the scriptwriters are "planning a big twist for all the characters".
One idea being floated is that Jones is knocked up but is unsure whether the kid belongs to long-term boyfriend Mark or ex-flame Daniel. A predicament to be sure.
Whether that counts as a "big twist" or not though is another thing. And a thin, pregnant, non-wine drinking Bridget? Doesn't sound right now does it?
Cutting out the character's booze and cig intake is probably more of a twist than anything else the writers could come up with. Guess this means there'll be no more drunken warbling along to Celine Dion then...
