Maybe you're a kid on holiday or a parent whose kid is on holiday (or, an adult with a love for family films - we don't judge). Either way, this is what's on.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted 3D and 2D

Suitable for: The Whole Family | Rated (PG)

The Madagascar crew now find themselves in Europe on their way home to their beloved New York City zoo. But with persistent animal control officer Chantel DuBois in pursuit, they're forced to join a traveling circus.

Combining DreamWorks’ A-class animation with their eye-puncturing use of 3D, Madagascar 3 is an ADHD gag train that will please both kids and adults alike.

Madagascar 3 proves a crowd-pleaser, and one that is better than it really has any right to be.” – Steve Newall, Flicks.co.nz

Kiwi Flyer, Movie

Kiwi Flyer

Suitable for: The Whole Family | Rated (G)

This New Zealand family film sets out to prove that Kiwis can fly. In honour of his late father, a young Nelson lad sets out to win the local trolley derby with the help of his friends. However, he’s going to have to outrun some cheating Australians to do it.

This is the first homegrown family feature in over two decades and stars Dai Henwood, Tandi Wright and Vince Martin. Offering a wealth of light gags and a heavy spirit, Kiwi Flyer is a unique local option for the kids.

“Andrew Gunn’s script plays it safe, combining drama with broad comedy and slapstick, flying poo included.” - Rebecca Barry Hill, Flicks.co.nz

Tinker Bell and the Secret of the Wings, Movie

Tinker Bell and the Secret of the Wings

Suitable for: Girls 5 - 10 Years | Rated (G)

The recent Tinker Bell series has been Disney’s quiet achiever, proving to be a winner amongst younger girly movie-goers. Secret of the Wings continues the franchise with a new world and a host of new characters.

When Tink’s curiosity gets the better of her, she travels to the forbidden Winter Woods. But during her quest, she makes a discovery: her long lost sister Periwinkle.

“It only takes five minutes for you to be introduced to the most adorable bunny rabbit you will ever see.” – Liam Maguren, Flicks.co.nz

Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Movie

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Suitable for: Girls and Boys 8 - 12 Years | Rated (PG)

The third entry into the popular series sees ‘Wimpy Kid’ Greg Heffley attempt to beat the summer ‘dog days’ by posing as an employee at a fancy country club.

With its slapstick gags, potty humour and amusingly awkward situations, this one’s for the older kids. But as cartoony as Dog Days seems, it also manages to sneak in some timely life messages, like the power of learning from your mistakes and the values of keeping your swimming trunks tied on.

Hotel Transylvania 3D and 2D, Movie

Hotel Transylvania 3D and 2D

Suitable for: Boys and Girls 7 - 12 Years | Rated (PG)

Count Dracula is the owner of a deluxe hotel for hardworking monsters who need a break, until a human arrives to disturb them - and makes an impression on Drac's young (118-year-old) daughter.

The influence of director and visionary cartoonist Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack) is seen in every single one of the film's many creatures.

“It definitely doesn’t lack for a variety of motley character designs, featuring everything from cuddly werewolf pups to zombie bellhops.” – Aaron Yap, Flicks.co.nz
