This is part of our on-going segment entitled Smart Creative People Recommending Good Stuff to Watch, in which we crassly scour the internet for great movie lists.
The folks at Massive Cinema polled 60 British film critics asking: What are the best British films released since 2000?
From that hot mess of critical consideration, and a list of 100 movies, coming out at number one is Jonathan Glazer’s brilliant, striking 2013 sci-thriller Under the Skin featuring Scarlett Johansson as an alien seductress. Glazer features again at number 15 with 2000’s Sexy Beast. Director Lynne Ramsay makes the list three times (with We Need to Talk About Kevin, Morvern Callar and You Were Never Really Here). Meanwhile, displaying a healthy populist streak amongst the critics, everyone’s favourite movie Paddington 2 takes the bronze.
Here is the top 20 and where to watch them.
