2 Guns

Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg star in this old-school actioner about two operatives who infiltrate a major drug ring, neither knowing the other is an undercover federal agent. The pair are forced to team up when their respective agencies disown them. From the director of Contraband.

For the past 12 months, drug enforcement agent Bobby (Washington) and naval intelligence office Marcus (Wahlberg) have been working undercover as members of a narcotics syndicate. Each distrusts the other as much as the crims they plan on taking down. When an attempt to infiltrate a Mexican drug cartel goes bad, their agencies wash their hands of the affair. Both are wanted for arrest or for dead, forcing the pair to work together. Unfortunately for their pursuers, when good guys spend years pretending to be bad, they pick up a few dirty tricks along the way.

Kormakur shows he knows his way around an action movie better than most, keeping the pace quick, the banter lively and the old-school, mostly CGI-free thrills delivering right on schedule.

Washington and Wahlberg are an effective double act in an intermittently exciting thriller with more twists than it needs.

A slick, slippery thriller that taps into the anarchic playfulness that made the best American action flicks of the 1980s and '90s pop.

Kormákur's directing style seems like a conscious corrective to the disorienting cutting and obvious CGI effects that have come to dominate Hollywood action films.

Charm makes up for ludicrous plotting in twist-heavy crime story.

This does a serviceable job homaging '80s actioners but not a whole lot more. Go for the explosions, zone out for the plot.

2 Guns Hmmm, like 'Dusk till Dawn' with some Quentin Tarantino thrown in. My enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Ever had that feeling of being totally flummoxed by a plot twist? 2 Guns gives you these feelings quite frequently. But not too frequent that you get used to it. I liked this movie. It was entertaining because it kept you interested in what might happen next. It was ‘balls out’ action and cleverly sophisticated where it needed to be and flowed nicely...
