While he has certainly made worse films than this one during that time, rarely has he come up with something as utterly inconsequential as this collection of rehashed themes, characters, and punchlines.

A work that feels stodgily anachronistic.

Is the film actually any good? The answer is: Not really. Or more like, not really in light of Allen’s much better and brighter works (you name them), with this one merely a watchable rehashing of his preferential themes and plot points, set in a present-day Manhattan so nostalgic and unreal it might as well be a period piece.

A bittersweet comedy peppered with splendid performances.

Hardly top-tier Allen, but it’s a shame that such wonderful performances are unlikely to receive the wider attention they deserve.

Despite featuring some of the best actors of their respective generations, "A Rainy Day in New York" feels like a film born of profound creative exhaustion.
