Alice in Wonderland 3D

Alice in Wonderland 3D

Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd) seems the perfect director to bring Lewis Carrol's trippy children's fantasy to life. A three-dimensional combination of live-action and computer animation is used to tell the story of a young girl named Alice (Australian newcomer Mia Wasikowska), who falls down a rabbit hole into a strange world full of strange characters.

Those characters include Johnny Depp (in his sixth collaboration with Burton) as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, Little Britain's Matt Lucas as both Tweedledee and Tweedledum and Crispin Glover as Stayne – Knave of Hearts.

Also screening in 2D.

Lots of visual, but no substance

Left the movie feeling ...."oh, i wish it had been done by a frenchman"! : ( Visually good, but it was like being presented with the most visually gorgeous cake, and upon eating, it tasted exactly as you anticipated - with no unexpected surprises in flavours or texture etc. And the usual Hollywood format - the good guys, the bad guys (who get defeated as...

And I loved the 3-D effect. Did not find it too dark it all. Yes, definitly eye candy. Great for children ... and for young at heart adults :-) Go see it. Lots of fun. 3-D brilliant. Much better than without the glasses.

Loved every second of this movie. The most entertaining movie I have ever seen (with 3D effects. And I'm 60 yrs old! Appealed to the child in me. Brilliant. eautiful, colourful nd exciting. Highly recommend. (how could anyone ever thinkit was boring. Would watch again and again. Intend to buy a copy for my grandchildren one day.)

Excellent Effort

Heaps of fun. Enjoyable cast minus a somewhat blank Mia Wasikowska. Enough content for both boys and girls. 3D glasses probably made it too dark. Visual feast. Fantastic realisation of Carroll's characters/illustrations. Left the cinema feeling crossed thanks to the 3D though.

Way better than you'd think...

Granted, I went in with low expectations given Burton's recent output. But I loved this - its a children's film that I'd say is awesome for kids and very good for adults. Compare it to Narnia, and countless animated kids film - it's darker, emmersive and much more aligned with traditional fairy tales. I love that there's a lot to read between the lines....

The characters are lovable, well designed, witty but placed over a stock standard story board, it losses impact. I left feeling as if there was substance missing to the film in general. in this regard i agree with the review from "Variety USA"..it is very conventional. I saw it in real D and i felt the image to be too dark thanks to the glasses. (i took...

For all its clever design, beguiling creatures and witty actors, the picture feels far more conventional than it should; it's a Disney film illustrated by Burton, rather than a Burton film that happens to be released by Disney.

A fantastical romp that proves every bit as transporting as that movie about the blue people of Pandora, his "Alice" is more than just a gorgeous 3D sight to behold.

Sadly Lewis lite and not without flaws but this is as Burtonesque as one could wish for, a real treat for fans of his twisted imagination and great British character actors.
