Blue Jasmine

Review: Blue Jasmine

Cate Blanchett's acting worth the price of admission alone.

Six of us saw "Blue Jasmine" today - Woody Allen's latest film. This is not an easy watch and we were deeply divided with scores ranging from 1 to 4.5 (I was a 4). The story tracks the rather sad fall from grace and subsequent decline of a New York socialite who moves to San Francisco to live with her sister, having run out of assets and cash. She seems to exist on a diet of Xanax and vodka and this shows up in both her moods and behaviour. Some interesting characters along the way. Even those of us who didn't like the film agreed that it was worth seeing for Cate Blanchett's performance alone. 2.5 average from us.
