Endless Love

Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike) and Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers) star as doomed lovers - a privileged girl and a charismatic boy whose instant desire sparks a love affair despite their parents attempts to keep them apart.

Beautiful straight-A student Jade (Wilde) has spent her high school years as a recluse, following the death of her 'perfect' older brother, preferring the quiet company of her family. On the last day of school, she meets David (Pettyfer) - who is working as a valet at the hotel where Jade has her graduation dinner - and they fall instantly for each other. As Jade's parents suspect that David is steering her off a mapped out career trajectory, she decides to risk everything for the boy she loves. A remake of the 1981 romance (itself adaptated from the Scott Spencer novel), from the director of Country Strong.

Flicks, Leonie Hayden

With all due respect to Scott Spencer’s source novel, every aspect of Endless Love feels lifted from a pink diary with hearts drawn inside it - from the outrageously good-looking protagonists to the “villain” (a mean old dad who is mean). The most astounding thing about it is that adult minds are responsible for recreating the teen ennui so faithfully.

The intended result is an American teen love story for a tweenie audience, with sexuality and drug use implied more than shown... the movie’s also banking on a demographic too young to spot the industrial-strength clichés throughout.

Doesn't have enough going on to make it memorably terrible: Banality is its gravest sin.

Though you'd think twice about lining a budgie cage with pages from the screenplay, there is something tremendously entertaining about the experience that never quite wears off.
