I quite enjoyed this movie. Pierce wasnt too smarmy and the plot was bouncing along nicely. A good watch for a rainy day.

Not just another chick flick

This would be a great introduction to sub-titled movies for those who are spooked by them. It has elements of Spanglish but its much better. I loved the settings. The plot was predictable but main character - Ida (played by Trine Dyrholm) was just wonderful to watch. Not since The Big C has there been such a multifaceted story about someone with cancer. Go.

Corny as a vat of polenta, but still rib-sticking enough to satisfy those who like lightly seasoned, easily digestible cinematic starch.

A scrumptious romantic comedy set on the dazzling Italian Riviera and as a result, happily puts us through the emotional wringer. I laughed and I cried.

Ms. Bier and Anders Thomas Jensen, her scriptwriter, have clearly enjoyed working within a conventional format, while wittily and poignantly subverting expectations, to create a real gem of bittersweet comedy.

Has sweetness, charm and a generosity of spirit that will find many takers.
