Oblivion

Tom Cruise is a sky-bound patroller of a desolate Earth who makes a world-changing discovery in this big-budget futuristic sci-fi, from the director of Tron: Legacy (adapting his own comic book). Co-stars  Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Game of Thrones' Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

Jack (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. As part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as The Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete. Patrolling the skies from thousands of feet above, he's brought crashing down when he rescues a stranger from a spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

It’s not just Tom Cruise having flashbacks in Oblivion. Despite the film being something of a modern rarity - a big-budget sci-fi tale based on an original idea – Oblivion is as blatantly strewn with elements of other genre predecessors as its post-apocalyptic setting is with iconic New York landmarks.

Strong Modern Sci-Fi

A very enjoyable movie. Tom Cruise at his usual game (which is always a joy), however with a few modern drama twists. Plot is simple, but very effective in the film's general context.

It was pretty average but the best thing about it was that is was a new story line.

Better than most Sci-fi

This could be the real life version of WALL-E and probably shows Toms best performance to date. Maybe those acting lessons are starting to work, TG Very few words in this script with only "The Plank" and "Koyaanisqatsi" having fewer words. I rate it average for the scenery, above average for the plot and 5 star for the swimming pool, girl included.

It took its sweet time

The film was very slow-paced; the audiences already had questions established in the first 10 minutes, but the film was just dragging on and on. I was glad to get all the answers in the end, and I was also glad it was over. There wasn't enough action or that 'edge-of-your-seat' feeling you usually get when watching a sci-fi film. The plot was real cool...

Not so Oblivious...

If your expecting a fast pace, gun blazing, gung-ho sci-fi then stay home and hire an Arnie movie! However, if you want an interesting watch with nice cinematography Oblivion is a nice Sunday watch. Story is not half bad with a nice little twist. Tom is not too one dimensional and actually watchable. Tom's sidekick is not too shabby either... The both of...

SCI-FI MASH-UP! It's the End of the World as We Know It!

Question: Which sci-fi movie is better than "Prometheus"? Answer: ANY sci-fi movie! Joking aside, this thought went through my mind while watching "Oblivion". If Scott's mess of a film had even half the script cohesion of "Oblivion", it would have been the better for it. Now this flick is far from perfect, to be sure. For awhile I was playing spot the...

It's not bad at all!

If you watch this without expectation and allow the story to unfold, then you will enjoy it. If you want a profound mind-boggling tightly woven movie, then perhaps this is not for you. If you want to be entertained and made to think of the plot, characters, some loopholes, highlights And questions to talk about after the movie, then you won't be...

For The Sci-Fi Followers

I have never gone to a movie based on who the actors were. The enjoyment/review is solely formed by the story and how it is put together. So a movie with Tom Cruise(or any other actors)in it is not a reason for me to see it. This movie has a good look to it,with a destroyed world and a blown apart moon.It Is visually stunning. Just when you think you have the...

A moderately clever dystopian mindbender with a gratifying human pulse, despite some questionable narrative developments along the way.

It isn’t a reboot or reimagining, refreshingly, but Oblivion plays like a stylised remix of superior sci-fi ground-breakers. Cruise and Kosinski: they might be an effective team, but pioneers they’re not.

Kosinski continues to lavish far more thought on how his elaborate fantasy worlds look than how they work, and neither the politics nor the human stakes here coalesce into rational or relatable drama.

Oblivion goes on for a long time, moving slowly and self-consciously, and it looks like a very expensive movie project that has been written and rewritten many times over. It is a shame: Cruise, Riseborough and Kurylenko as the last love triangle left on Planet Earth should have been quite interesting.

Oblivion is an absolutely gorgeous film dramatically caught between its aspirations for poetic romanticism and the demands of heavy sci-fi action.

Kosinski has again built a fantasy world that feels real to its core, but once more put most effort into the scenery and too little into the people.
