In 1998 flamboyant Italian road racing cyclist Marco Pantani won both the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia – a titanic feat that no rider has repeated since. He was a hero to millions and seen as the saviour of a sport dragged down by doping scandals. Less than six years later, aged just 34, he died alone, in a cheap Italian hotel room from acute cocaine poisoning. This documentary explores Pantani's descent from world-beating heights, to his tragic end.
Combines race archive with contemporary news footage, stylised reconstructions, and interviews with Pantani's friends, family, colleagues, and rivals, including Sir Bradley Wiggins, Evgeni Berzin and Greg LeMond.
