I went to Suicide Suad expecting a lot of Margot Robbie's butt, a terrible performance of the Joker and an unfortunately good performance of Harley Quinn.
I felt the opposite of this though, that Jared Leto did a good job of the Joker, and that the failures of the character were to do with the writers rather than him. He did an amazing job of the behaviours but he had no real motivations and he did not have Batman. Instead, he was in love with Harley Quinn, which is completely wrong. The film messed up their complicated relationship, and two amazing characters. Harley Quinn, on the other hand, felt like a teenage girl obsessing over a celebrity. She acted like a little girl would, rather than someone with mental problems who is suffering from an abusive relationship, but yes there was a lot of camera focus on her butt.
Will Smith was one of the few other characters who were given actual dialogue but still fell into a cliche. The rest of the characters were not likeable, and/or completely one-liners (not a typo, they were actually a new form of character I like to call one-liner characters). The film killed off non-white characters like flies, and didn't even bother to give the only native American a back-story.
The actual plot was like any other superhero movie these days. Though, it managed to skip the entire middle part, instead going straight from a beginning to an ending. There was no space for the characters to really develop or get to know each other, apart from when they admit how they killed their family or whatever. However, they all end up best friends anyway.
There are more songs on the soundtrack than there is dialogue. Jumping from one cliche song that has been over-used in movies to another, it pretends that this gives another 'cool' dimension to each of the lacking characters. It fails.
Overall I was kept entertained by the abundance of failures and things wrong with this film. At least it has been fun to review.
We spent 12 months on this new Flicks website, and when the rubber met the road, a developer who shall rename nameless didn't finish our member login and sign-ups. Literally everything else got done. But not member login and sign-ups. He had a good crack at it. Came up short. It happens.
Good news is, it'll be finished shortly. Please try again in a day or so. We appreciate your patience.
