Flicks Review

Whether you perceive it to be an animated classic or an overrated Disney-fied reboot of Hamlet, chances are you’ve made up your mind about The Lion King. If you ask any kid of the ‘90s, they’ll probably affirm the former. Disney knows this all too well, hence the 3D re-release.... More

The stellar animation holds up flawlessly along with the gorgeous art direction. As with Beauty and the Beast, the tenderness given to the restoration is on a Mother Teresa level. The soundtrack still resonates with the same vibrancy it did 17 years ago, though Timon and Pumbaa’s fart-censoring introductory number may leave corn in your teeth.

I hate to repeat a common complaint with 3D conversions, but you probably won’t process the extra dimension for the majority of the film: it only adds to a select number of establishing shots and to the climactic finale. When it does kick in, however, it manages to compliment the artistry without shoveling it into your corneas. The effect is just not as frequent as I would’ve liked, nor is it as salient.

Some may find it more practical to wait for the film’s Blu-ray release rather than be pushed to pay the 3D price, but that doesn’t hinder the fact that The Lion King 3D is still a staggering spectacle.Hide

When I was a child, I constantly watched this movie and loved it! I recently went to see it in 3D, and it was amazing! The picture was great, and I loved the 3D effects. I also remebered how cool the story is, and I got a lot of the adult targeted jokes thrown in there that I never got as a child. I still sang along to all the songs, I am so happy they remastered it for today's younger generation to see. Definitely go, and take your loved ones with you!

I had to go re see it... still loved it... it's so much cooler on the big screen... I still blubbed. Go see it! Was really good in 3D.

This was my fave movie as a child and still is my fave childrens movie. Absolutely brilliant. Extra bonus about watching it as an adult now I get some of the slightly more adult jokes that are thrown in rather then just laughing at it because Mum and Dad laughed. Would reccomend it to all ages

Seeing as this was my favourite Disney film when I was young, it was always pretty likely that I would love seeing this in 3D. However, I have to admit that it was even more amazing than I ever could have imagined! :D The 3D was done really well, the graphics looked spectacular. Plus, I'd forgotten both how heartbreaking and heartwarming the storyline and characters are! :) Recommended to everyone, of all ages - you won't leave disappointed :)

  • Basically what we have here is a drama, with comedy occasionally lifting the mood. The result is a surprising seriousness; this isn't the mindless romp with cute animals. Full Review

  • This is more a favourite of the children than adult Disney fans. It has a few memorable songs and has spawned a very popular stage production. Full Review

  • A hugely entertaining blend of music, fun and eye-popping thrills, though it doesn't lack for heart. Full Review

  • Everything's fine-tuned to perfection. The hand-drawn characters throb with life. The CG set-pieces yank your jaw to the carpet. The maddeningly catchy songs keep things from getting too bleak. And the story has more emotional kick than a herd of stampeding wildebeest. Full Review
