A "quasi-theatrical contrivance" (The Guardian), based on Jean Anouilh's 1941 play Eurydice, from French filmmaking veteran (89 years old at the time of making this) Alain Resnais.
Antoine (Denis Podalydès) is a cultured and wealthy dramatist whose death is announced by telephone to his close friends (Michel Piccoli, Mathieu Amalric, Anne Consigny, Lambert Wilson playing themselves). His lawyer invites them to Antoine's home and has them all watch a video recording of a performance of his play Eurydice. This was a play they had all been in and the recording transports them back in time: they start reciting the lines, feeling the emotions, and we see them swept back into the roles.
