How to watch Gunslingers in New Zealand
Nic Cage does what he does in this low budget neo-Western actioner.

The mighty Nicolas Cage continues to choose his roles by throwing darts at a mood board, this time coming up with this pretty cool looking neo-revisionist western.

What is Gunslingers about?
The man formerly known as Nicolas Coppola is Ben, the local photographer in a small town named Redemption, circa 1903. The name of the town is significant, because it’s full of supposedly dead criminals who have been “reborn” into new lives. Their fake executions were recorded by Ben, and their new lives inaugurated through baptism by the town preacher, Jericho (Costas Mandylor). But when new fish Thomas Keller (Stephen Dorff) arrives, he brings a massive posse of vengeful gunmen after him, seeing as he murdered a Rockefeller back in New York City. Cue violence.
The cast of Gunslingers
Nicolas Cage is Ben; Stephen Dorff is Thomas Keller; Heather Graham is Val, a woman from Thomas’ past; Scarlet Rose Stallone is Bella; Tzi Ma is Lin; Jeremy Kent Jackson is Robert Keller, Thomas’s brother; Costas Mandylor is Jericho, Redemption’s preacher and nominal leader; Cooper Barnes is Levi; Bre Blair is Mary; Randall Batinkoff is Doc; and William McNamara is Kelly.

Why we’re excited about Gunslingers
While the concept is cool as hell and it looks the business—check out Cage’s awesome cruciform spectacles!—the critical response has been absolutely savage. Over at Variety, Dennis Harvey called it the “modern-day equivalent of a Poverty Row ‘oater”, which is brutal.
But what the hell do critics know anyway? (Other than the ones on Flicks, who are always, always, always right, even when they disagree with each other.) Is there an outside chance that this film is a rough gem? Or is it only for Cage completists? Only one way to find out…
