‘Lost Property’, the 6min Animated Short That Will Painfully Remind You of ‘Up’

Our mates at Show Me Shorts recently opened their hearts to three short romantic films that left them moon-eyed. I, too, fall for love stories, but seem oddly attracted to seeing the sadder side of adoration. Perhaps I’m just an emotional masochist, but that shouldn’t take away from the quality of Lost Property.

Following two elderly characters wondering around a whimsical lost-n-found department, writer-director Åsa Lucander tells her story with a gorgeous art direction – textured with age but coloured with vibrancy – and a creeping sombreness that will no doubt trigger memories of the opening to Up. But unlike Pixar’s painful reminder of our own mortality, Lost Property concludes on a much sweeter note that cushions the heart (as opposed to ripping it out).

Lucander has crafted a beautiful paradox, one that shows us how love is both fleeting and everlasting.
