Positioned in the Old High Street Post Office, Alice is a boutique cinema and film specialists determined to whet the appetites of discriminating film-lovers. Best known for serving arthouse, foreign, festival, cult, classic and documentary films that are often passed over by the larger cinemas. Alice is made up of an exquisitely crafted 38 seat Egyptian theatre and its new luxurious 36 seat Wonderland themed cinema.

Alice is also home to one of the only DVD rental and disc-on-demand services in the country, boasting NZ’s largest DVD library of around 28,000 films/shows.

Their licenced bar offers local Waipara/ North Canterbury boutique wines, craft beer, zeffer cider, hummingbird coffee, little island ice cream, proper crisps, sweet as popcorn, karma cola sodas and organic juices as well as karma kombucha.

Getting Here, Map & Parking

There is limited pay-per-space street parking on the surrounding streets, and many carpark facilities nearby: The Crossing Carpark (71 Lichfield Street), SALT District Carpark (160 Lichfield Street), Little High Carpark (255 St Asaph Street), and  Lichfield Street Carpark (33 Lichfield Street).

History

Established in 1985 as Alice in Videoland, a video rental store determined to fill a gap left by the limited selections of larger video chains. The video store installed its first cinema in 2012 and shortened its name to Alice.
