What is House of the Dragon season 2 about?
Civil war! Set some 2oo years before the events of Game of Thrones and based on…well, bits and pieces that original author George RR Martin has written here and there (which will be less of a headache than waiting for him to finish a book, frankly). The series sees two factions vie for the Iron Throne: the Blacks, led by Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and her husband/uncle Prince Daemon (there’s a lot of incest in this one) and the Greens, headed by King Aegon II Targaryen and his mother, Dowager Queen Alicent Hightower. Everyone rides dragons and, frequently, each other. When they’re not plotting to kill each other, that is.
Did we mention that Aegon is married to his sister? No wonder the Targaryens all went absolutely mental down the track. The family tree looks like a tangle of seaweed.

Why we’re excited about House of the Dragon season 2
While Game of Thrones faltered at the last hurdle, House of the Dragon is faring into relatively uncharted territory, and while prequels have a sworn duty to leave all the playing pieces in the correct place for their predecessor, we’re keen to say what happens next. Plus, there hasn’t been this much sex and blood in fantasy since… oh, Conan the Barbarian?
