Music, Laughter and Romance.

British romantic comedy about Adam (the great Richard E. Grant, Withnail & I), a rich industrialist and frustrated opera singer who aspires to live in a more cultured world. More

Spurred on by jibes that he’s little more than a suit living the capitalist’s dream, he decides to throw an opera - Mozart's Cosi fan tutti, no less -  at his lavish country retreat. Assembling a team of opera singers and musicians, including a bevy of beautiful young women, Adam hopes to display his cultural nous, his own singing voice and also win the hand of a female conductor (actress and soprano Sarah Brightman).  Hide

It is 'Cosi fan tutte' not 'Cosi von tutti'. Google is your friend.

Apparently it's just me.......

Didn't enjoy this at all and I am a huge fan of Richard E. Grant. I found the acting and script so poor I felt embarrassed for the cast. However, judging by the other reviews here it's just me. So decide for yourself. I'd love to hear if anyone else agrees with me though.
2 stars for location.

Opera fans will enjoy!

This is one that opera fans will enjoy (I am one!) Plenty of music and of a very high standard. The background story runs like an opera itself and the characters are very believable. Lots of funny moments and great scenery. Some of the dialogue and acting not all that great and I found Sarah Brightman a bit disappointing. But generally, a very enjoyable movie!

Love Sarah Brightman, though her acting is not her forte. A generally entertaining movie and lots of comical moments.

Has A Certain Charm

BrionyJae Flicks Superstar (?)

Okay. So I discovered that Sarah Brightman isn't terribly great at acting. But you know what? That doesn't really bother me so much, because she actually wasn't the drawcard for me. I went along to this film because the trailer had a certain amount of charm - something which the whole film definitely had. The way the characters interacted, and their little back stories running alongside the main plot - the performance of the opera - were completely enchanting, and highly amusing at times! :) I was particularly impressed and entertained by Oliver Dimsdale's performance, as well as Emma Williams'. I really hope to see them crop up in future films! So, overall, I'd say this would be a suitable film for an enjoyable night out, and leaves you with warm fuzzies :)

As a sort of primer for people who think they don’t like opera First Night works quite well. Full review.

The Guardian (UK)

Richard E Grant's over-the-top performance as an opera-singing millionaire just about saves this silly romcom. Full review.

Total Film (UK)

This slick British musical fails to be as charming as it thinks it is. Full review.

Variety (USA)

Likely to turn off moviegoers resistant to the upscale art form while failing to satisfy opera's true devotees. Full review.
