Two friends that didn't know they were supposed to be enemies.

Taken in by a generous old woman, a young orphaned fox befriends a hound dog pup in this 1981 Disney animation. As the two grow older, their friendship is tested when they realise that, in the animal world, they are natural enemies. More

Roger Ebert describes the film as “one of those relatively rare Disney animated features that contains a useful lesson for its younger audiences. It's not just cute animals and frightening adventures and a happy ending; it's also a rather thoughtful meditation on how society determines our behaviour.” Hide

Press Reviews

Chicago Sun-Times (Roger Ebert)

The bottom line, I suppose, is: Will kids like this movie? And the answer is, sure, I think so. Full review.

Empire (UK)

As one of the studio's more modern efforts, this is head and shoulders above the 1988 clinker Oliver And Company but still pales in comparison next to 101 Dalmatians. As a school holiday diversion, however, it should keep things ticking over nicely until Pocahontas lands on these shores. Full review.

New York Times

This is a pretty, relentlessly cheery, old-fashioned sort of Disney cartoon feature. Full review.
