What's in a Name (Le prénom) 2012

Stuff

French farce about a dinner party disrupted by one of the guests when he announces a controversial name for his soon-to-be-born son. This is just the start of a round of bickering and insults that ensues between this group of 40-something friends, with the film almost entirely confined to the hosts' apartment. More

Adapted from the filmmakers' 2010 play of the same title and using most of the stage version's key cast, What's in a Name has been a domestic hit at the French box office.  Hide

Haven't laughed so hard in a long time

This is a superbly written, beautifully acted little movie about the runaway effect of one joke that goes too far. I laughed til I cried, and so did everyone else in the movie theatre. It is saved from the farcical by some beautifully quiet and simple moments of drama. I hope it comes out in wider release, because I want to take all my family to see it! I can't recommend it enough.
