Review: Birds of Passage (Pájaros de Verano)
Controlling the means of productionThe Guajira Peninsula sticks out into the Caribbean Sea on the border between Colombia and Venezuela. It varies from dry desert-like conditions in the north to humid jungles in the south. Cannabis grows quite well in the jungle. It is the home of the Wayuu people.
Birds of Passage is a story covering 20 years from the 1960s to 1980s of how a young man and his relatives get involved in selling cannabis to Americans and what the massive influx of cash does to their relationships with each other.
Birds of Passage is visually beautiful and simple film with an escalating body count.
