Cars 2

Sequel to Disney/Pixar's 2006 Cars. Racing star Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and tow truck Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) head overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix - the winner to be named the world’s fastest car.

But things go awry when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. Torn between assisting Lightning in his high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret spy mission, Mater finds himself on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world.

Pretty vacant

Cars 2 is as visually appealing as any other Pixar production, but all that dazzle can't disguise the rusty storytelling under the hood.

Did we watch the same film?...

I don't understand how some folks are rating this so highly & even giving it five stars. You're kidding right. This flick was so boring & regardless of how outstanding the animation was the bottom line is my kids fell asleep through the damn thing. I don't understand why Mater was more the main character & surely they could've come up with a...

guttered my kids didn't enjoy this

my two boys are huge fans of cars and we watch cars one neraly very day. I took them to cars two and it was too complaicted for them and they didn't sit still. They are 1 and 2 so pretty young but thought because they watch cars 1 non stop they would enjoy it. Just doesn't compare to cars 1

poor cars 2 only faltered due to being produced 3D

I thought this movie was utterly brilliant and had been sceptical to see it the whole time, due to the crusty reviews. I think the main thing this movie suffered from most was its production in 3D. When movies produce in 3D these days, they are incoherently saying that they have something in the movie that is unique in terms of effects and can make a form...

Kids Films are the Best! :)

Honestly, it seems like there's always at least one kids film amongst my favourite new films in a year, and this very well could be it for 2011! I loved the way Cars 2 had a different focus to the first film - the secret agent element was genius! I just loved the new characters :) There was more focus on Mater as well, which was pretty epic - although...

Yeah... Nah...

It's one thing to make a mediocre film, but when you're a film studio as highly distinguished as Pixar, it becomes another thing entirely. Cars 2 focuses around a family-friendly spy plot that's actually pretty clever. Unfortunately, that idea is repeatedly run over by unbearably annoying scenes of Mater being a dumbass. The generic script flattens the...

Pixar magic still alive!

If you loved 'Cars' then it would be impossible not to like this. If you are a kid, young or old, then you will love it. It baffles me why some critics don't appreciate the Cars movies as much as the other Pixar classics. They ooze just as much magic and charm, but oddly some people just can't seem to relate to them. I can only assume that toy cars...

The rare sequel that not only improves on but retroactively justifies its predecessor, this lightning-paced caper-comedy shifts the franchise into high gear with international intrigue, spy-movie spoofery and more automotive puns than you can shake a stickshift at, handling even its broader stretches with sophistication, speed and effortless panache.

Caine is a great addition to the group and I'd welcome him back for more as he brings a suave appeal to his Finn character; McQueen's not as self absorbed as the first film and Mater really plays to the hillbilly tendencies.

It is not entirely without charm or wit. Directed by John Lasseter (with Brad Lewis credited as co-director) from a script by Ben Queen, Cars 2 lavishes scrupulous imaginative attention on its cosmopolitan settings.

Cars 2 is fun. Whether that's because John Lasseter is in touch with his inner child or mine, I cannot say.

Cooler cars and more action follow Lightning and Mater as they mix it up with spies and Formula 1 racers in yet another Pixar winner.

Cars 2 looks fantastic, but the studio has never given audiences - especially audiences over the age of 10 - less reason to be emotionally invested in the beautiful shiny things flying across the screen.
