Dazed and Confused

Dazed and Confused

See it with a bud.

Free-flowing coming-of-age chronicle of the last day of school in 1976, following geek and cool-kid teens looking to get drunk, high and laid when that final bell rings. The follow up to 1991 indie sensation Slacker by director Richard Linklater (Before Sunrise, Sunset and Midnight).... More

On the month of May, it becomes open season on junior high kids as high school students become hunters with paddle bats, welcoming the summer holiday in Texas. But what starts as an inevitable round of bullying for one junior turns into a life-defining night when an older teen takes him under his wing and introduces him to a world full of booze, love, youthful spirit and other intoxicating substances.

The film helped launch the careers of Oscar-winners Ben Affleck and Matthew McConaughey, as well as sci-fi action icon Milla Jovovich.Hide

  • The teenage wasteland, 1976-style, of Dazed and Confused is smack-dab between The Brady Bunch and Children of the Damned, and it's a scary, if sometimes giddily amusing, place to visit. Full Review

  • A smart piece of filmmaking which suggests Linklater is already one of the more formidable talents of the 90s. Full Review

  • Seriously funny, and shorn of any hint of nostalgia or wish-fulfilment, this is pretty much where it's at. Full Review
