A lot more gaudy, and just as dumb, as the original series starring Buster Crabbe.
Full reviewIntentionally camp, sci-fi space adventure adapted from the 1930s comic strip, featuring a soundtrack by Queen. American Football player Flash Gordon (Sam J. Jones) travels to the planet Mongo and finds himself battling Ming the Merciless (Max von Sydow) to save Earth.
New York Jets star Flash is zapped from Earth to Mongo with his beautiful companion, newspaper reporter Dale Arden (Melody Anderson). In an attempt to put an end to Ming's plan to destroy the Earth, Flash battles the emperor's goons and declines the advances of the luscious Princess Aura (Ornella Muti). With the help of Prince Barin (Timothy Dalton) and Prince Vultan (Brian Blessed), Flash Gordon takes the Ming empire by storm.
