Set in 1970s South Florida, Anna Paquin (TV's True Blood) stars as a single mother caught up in the drug smuggling business while trying to make a better life for her two daughters. Based on writer/director Shana Betz's own memoirs, produced by Paquin and her True Blood co-star and husband Stephen Moyer.

Desperate to escape her abusive boyfriend, Christina (Paquin) moves cross-country to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and is introduced to the dangerous world of high-stakes drug smuggling by her friend Sandy (The Soprano's Drea de Matteo). She quickly learns that dealing drugs, at the height of South Florida's smuggling heyday, has its price.

The soulful up-and-comer crafts a far more perilous tale, one of a teenage caretaker getting a crash course in growing up too fast, too soon.

The film's generosity toward Christina's decision-making is, however true to life, dramatically unsatisfying.
