Ice Cube leads the '90s classic comedy he co-wrote with music producer DJ Pooh, following two young men hanging out smoking and drinking on their porch one Friday afternoon. Co-starring Chris Tucker, this marks the feature debut of F Gary Gray (The Fate of the Furious, Straight Outta Compton).

Though funny, FRIDAY can't sustain its humorous tone to the end because it has to confront those same realities.

Chris Tucker is also an experienced comedian, which allows him to carry the film. As for Ice Cube, he's funny precisely because he's not a comedian.

"Friday" does have some good moments near the end, when it finally gets off the porch, and at certain moments throughout, when the Cube-Tucker conversation is interrupted by players in bit roles. The bit players are much more assured, funny and appealing than the two stars.
