Get Hard

Pre-prison comedy starring Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart (Ride Along) and Alison Brie (TV's Community), following a millionaire who is nailed for fraud. Before his incarceration, he seeks the advice of an “expert” inmate in order to get hard. Or, at least, look hard. This marks the feature directorial debut of screenwriter Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder, Men in Black 3).

Don’t get overly excited by this comparison, but remember when Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor could get a movie made around them just because of their chemistry? That’s what Get Hard is relying on, with Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart spending the film bouncing off one another and, well, that’s basically it.

Try Hard

It tries very hard but barely registers a titter unattached to toilet and frat humor. Is Ferrell headed down Sandler's mediocre street?

Funny as!

I don't agree with the previous reviews - this definitely deserves more than two stars! A lot of cursing and swearing - so not good for younger audiences - but other than that, I was laughing out loud all the way through it. And I haven't done that for a long time. I wanted to watch it again - but ran out of time & had to take it back to the video shop....

Opps

This film missed it mark. Tries hard to hard intact and falls flat.

Too much of it simply feels cheap, flailing and tired.

Written down, this sounds horrendous; watching it, I have to admit that I laughed.

Ferrell and Hart work well together: both are highly verbal performers, supported by a script full of unlikely linguistic flourishes.

The script, by TV comedy writers Jay Martel and Ian Roberts, doesn't give the stars much to work with and their apparent improvisation is only fleetingly effective.

A passably silly but lowbrow buddy comedy.

For a movie whose premise depends on the mockery of someone who offensively stereotypes, it deals heavily in stereotypes itself, wanting its cake and eating it too.
