God Help the Girl
Sundance-winning, Glasgow-based pop musical from Stuart Murdoch, lead singer of Belle and Sebastian. Stars Emily Browning as an emotionally troubled girl who finds solace in songwriting and eventually in starting a band.
"Eve (Browning) is a catastrophe - low on self-esteem but high on fantasy, especially when it comes to music. Over the course of one Glasgow summer, she meets two similarly rootless souls: posh Cass and fastidious James, and together they form a group. In God Help the Girl, first-time writer/director Stuart Murdoch creates a poignant coming-of-age story that doubles as an indie-pop musical. The project began as a suite of songs, written while Murdoch was in between records and tours. He nurtured it for nearly a decade into a fully formed film, set in the bohemian fantasia of Glasgow's West End, which is populated by mods, rockers, and emo kids who sing and dance." God Help the Girl / Reviews

The Guardian
It's warm and generous, verging on the sentimental; a film that crystallises the best and worst of Belle and Sebastian's songwriting skills.
