Hall Pass

The new comedy from the Farrelly brothers (There's Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber, Me, Myself & Irene).

Rick (Owen Wilson) and Fred (Jason Sudeikis from TV's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) are best buds, both been married for many years. But when signs of restlessness appear at home, their wives (Jenna Fischer, Christina Applegate) take a bold approach to revitalising their individual marriages: they grant them a 'hall pass'. At first, it sounds like a dream come true. But it isn’t long before Rick and Fred discover their horndog expectations of the single life are out of sync with reality.

While the stabs at grown-up insight miss their targets, picture still packs more pure comedic punch than the Farrellys' last few offerings.

Whatever the case, it's dispiriting that the draggiest, soppiest scenes in Hall Pass, as well as the most disgusting gag, involve women.

The plot of the movie is meh.

After scoring big in 1998 with "Mary" - the zipper issue, the "hair gel" mix-up, the roving troubadours - their (Farrelly brothers) raw inventive edge has never been quite as sharp. Hall Pass, starring Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis, continues that creative slide into everyday crude.

The slapstick and action comedy interludes are haphazardly executed at best, and matters aren't helped by the film's incredibly ugly look.

Not up there with the Farrelly brothers' classics, but still a worthwhile, farcical comedy.

Expected more

Dont know why.. but I expected a lot more to this.. half the movie was Owen Wilson just talking his lines.. couldnt make out much acting!! Wasnt half as funny as I hoped .. good concept for some real laughs.. but there weren't enough for me

Typical Farrelly bros..

A few laugh out loud moments, a couple of cringe worthy gross-out scenes and thats all she wrote. Owen Wilson felt like he was going through the motions...no energy...while Jason Sudeikis was trying a bit too hard. Stephen Merchant was definitely the shining light amongst the cast...as was Christina Applegate. Not one of their best unfortunately.
