Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation

Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg and Selena Gomez return for Sony's third instalment in the monster family series.

Mavis (Gomez) surprises Dracula (Sandler) with a family voyage on a luxury cruise. On route, romance blossoms between Dracula and ship's mysterious captain, Ericka (Kathryn Hahn). Now it's Mavis's turn to play the overprotective parent, keeping her dad and Ericka apart. Little do they know that his "too good to be true" love interest is actually a descendant of Abraham Van Helsing, ancient nemesis to Dracula and all other monsters.

Hotel Transylvania 3

I had never seen a Hotel Transylvania movie prior Summer Vacation, but now I wouldn't mind checking them out. It's not strictly for kids. Adults can enjoy it too. Fast paced, colourfully animated, packed with visual inventiveness. Unlike the best Pixar movies, this is more of a cartoon than a film, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's not anything...

Returning a third time as director, Genndy Tartakovsky lends his usual graphic savvy, providing a not-quite-saving grace.

Hotel Transylvania 3 doesn't reinvent the formula of its predecessors, but at least the setting has changed.

"Hotel Transylvania 3" may lack the indelibility of the medium's best offerings for kids, but hopefully its clear theme of acceptance lingers long after the inoffensive odour of its fart jokes dissipates.

The movie flirts with the usual mixed-signals of romantic comedy, but is on much more solid ground...

As is often the case, a lot of the freshness so abundant in the original is all but gone now from Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation.
