Review: Joy

I do rather enjoy David O Russell's films (I'm one of the few people in the world who liked "I Heart Huckabees"), but they can be hit and miss - and this film is leaning slightly toward the latter. No issues with the execution - it's beautifully shot, well acted and directed, and I always love Russell's more surreal touches - but overall, I found the film oddly boring. It's perfectly enjoyable and does a good job of distracting the viewer from the fact there's not much below the surface until the credits roll. Well played.
