Jane Fonda gives an Oscar-winning performance in this 1971 mystery thriller as Bree Daniels, a call girl stalked by a mysterious man threatening to kill her. Small-town detective John Klute (Donald Sutherland) has been tracking Bree for some time, hoping to shed light on the disappearance of his friend who was somehow tied to the prostitute. When the two cross paths, they discover a way to assist each other.

Klute is the first entry to what became informally known as director Alan J. Pakula's Paranoia Trilogy (the other two films being The Parallax View and All the President's Men).
