Pulse (2007)
A remake of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's apocalyptic horror classic, 2001's 'Kairo', about ghosts travelling through the www's. The plot revolves around a group of teens traumatized by the suicide of one of their friends. But soon after, he starts communicating with them from beyond the grave via their computers as part of an increasingly malevolent computer/non-computer virus that somehow manages to unleash ghosts.
Despite the teens' best efforts to protect themselves, they find themselves succumbing to this plague that produces black, ink-like stains all over their body before they finally disintegrate. Ahem.

pressThe American version of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's "Pulse" mimics the plot fundamentals, but lacks any traces of Mr. Kurosawa’s creepy minimalism and conceptual rigor...

Hollywood Reporter
pressA horror film dealing with the terrors lurking via our computers, cell phones and other electronic devices, Pulse isn't nearly as scary as watching your hard drive crash or having your BlackBerry conk out in the middle of a vital call. The latest in what will no doubt be a long line of American remakes of Japanese horror films...
