Another tired, witless and potentially lucrative attempt to spin an exhausted buddy-cop template into action-comedy gold.

Shoddy and exhausted from the start, this painfully unfunny buddy-cop comedy lands with a plop in the January sewer of failed Hollywood castoffs.

It may not surprise you to learn, is a lot like "Ride Along," only less so.

This laid-back amusement should not be misinterpreted as competent storytelling.

It's simply a retread of the first Ride Along, a 2014 box-office hit, and proof positive that a bigger budget doesn’t buy bigger laughs.

As deprived of humour as it may be, Ride Along 2 is also pleasantly, stubbornly watchable.

Little more than a repetitive rehash of the original.

While he's a delight to watch, there's also something exhausting in watching Hart exert himself for a film offering him very little in return. He deserves better, as does the audience.

Plays more like a remake than a sequel.
